You can automate lawn mowing with Navimow lawn mowers. They strictly follow the schedule and mow when you want. But if the mower is starting on its own, it’s unusual behavior, which indicates there is something wrong.
We will share some common reasons for the issue. You can easily figure out the problem in your situation. We will also share some effective solutions so that you can resolve the issue on your own.
Reasons for Navimow to Start Mowing On Its Own
Incomplete Mowing
Navimow lawn mowers mow according to the schedule or given task. They mow the lawn until they cover the 100% mowing area.
If the mowing is interrupted because of low battery charge, the mower will automatically return to the charging station. Once it is charged at a certain battery level, it resumes mowing without human involvement.
Often, Navimow starts mowing on its own to complete its previous task that was interrupted. Suppose you started a one-time mowing task. The mower started mowing, and its battery became low in the middle. It will recharge and get back to the lawn. It’s normal behavior, and there’s nothing wrong with the mower.
Similarly, if you have scheduled mowing tasks, the mower will cover 100% of the area. In the case of a low battery, it will resume mowing after recharging.
Moreover, mowing is also interrupted if the mower isn’t capable of mowing at night. In this case, it will resume mowing in the morning.
Rain Sensor Trigger
Navimow lawn mowers keep an eye on the weather forecast. That’s how they can intelligently decide whether they should mow the lawn or postpone it.
If you have scheduled mowing or started a one-time task, the mower could stop it if there is rain ahead. It will pause the mowing and return to its charging station. It’s better for the lawn and the mower itself.
After the rain, the mower will start mowing the lawn. It will resume mowing until 100% of the area is covered.
Mowing at Night Turned Off
Some Navimow robot lawn mowers are capable of mowing at night. However, you have to enable the night mowing feature. By default, it is turned off.
If the feature is turned off, the mower will not continue mowing after dusk. It will pause the mowing task and return to the charging station. It will mow the remaining area in the morning.
Time Zone Issue
If you haven’t set the time zone, your mower will start on its own rather than at the time you have scheduled. That’s because of the time difference between your actual time zone and the preset time zone.
Without the correct time zone, the mower won’t start according to your time. That’s why you need to set it explicitly, and your mower will work fine afterward.
Poor Positioning
The mower also misbehaves due to poor positioning. It might not start mowing according to the schedule due to poor signals and poor placement of the charging station and antenna. In this case, you will see an error on the app: “Poor positioning. Scheduled mowing delayed.”
It will start mowing on its own once the signal improves. Which causes delays in the scheduled task and abnormal starting of the mower. It can start anytime, which is a bit cumbersome for the user.
It’s possible to resolve this issue. You need to change the position of the charging station and the antenna. We will discuss that later in the article.
How to Prevent Navimow from Starting Mowing On Its Own?
End Task
We have talked about incomplete mowing. It’s the most common reason your mower starts on its own. If one-time mowing or scheduled mowing was incomplete, your mower will resume it again after recharging.
But if you don’t want to resume mowing later or complete the remaining task, you need to end the task. Keep in mind that carrying the mower back to its charging station does not end a mowing task. You have to open the Navimow app and tap End Task to stop the ongoing mowing
Schedule Properly
Sometimes, users don’t pay attention to the mowing schedule. They select any random time or zone.
The first problem is the random mowing times. Users don’t consider whether the task will be completed before dusk.
Suppose you have scheduled a large area just an hour before sunset. The mower will start according to the schedule, but it won’t be able to complete it. Then, it will resume mowing the next day. It might also disturb the next schedule that comes in between.
The second issue is the random selection of the zone. You should know the mower’s mowing time and charging time. It gives you an idea of the area that the mower can cover in a day. You can make zones accordingly and schedule them on different days and times. By doing so, the mower will complete the mowing and won’t overlap with any other schedule.
Turn On Night Mowing
If your mower supports night mowing, you should turn it on. This way, the mower is still able to work after sunset. The mowing task is completed on time and won’t disturb the next day’s schedule.
Step 1: Open the app and go to Settings.
Step 2: Select Mower and look for VisionFence Sensor.
Step 3: Enable mowing at night.
Adjust the Time Zone
If the time zone is incorrect, you can easily set the right time zone in the Navimow app. After that, the mower will strictly follow the schedule.
Setting the right time zone is necessary. Otherwise, the mower will be off by several hours.
Step 1: Open the app and go to Settings.
Step 2: Go to Device Management > Basic Info.
Step 3: Look for the time zone and country and select it. Pick your local region. You can also select the standard time and turn on Daylight Saving Time (DST) if applicable.
Adjust the Charging Station and Antenna
If your mower is starting on its own because of poor positioning and signals, you need to adjust the placement of the charging station and the antenna.
Place the charging station and antenna in an open area. Make sure the clearance from trees, houses, walls, and other structures is more than 6.6 ft. There should be nothing between the charging station/antenna and the sky. They require an unobstructed space for better signal strength and coverage.
Place the charging station at a suitable location in the lawn. It should be a flat surface without any bumps or incline. Also, make sure there is a 1.6ft unstructured space on both sides and a 6.5 ft unobstructed space at the front.
Look for a suitable location for the antenna in the lawn. If there are too many obstacles or there is not enough unobstructed space, you can also place it on the roof or wall.
For better placement, you can also check satellites in Satellite Signal Analyzer. Open the Navimow app. Go to Settings > Satellite Signal Analyzer. It will show the available satellites in all directions.
