Navimow’s multi-zone mowing helps lawn owners split a giant yard into independent cutting sections. It gives them more control and customization options, so that they can get tailored mowing results for every part of the lawn.

It’s an incredible feature, especially for properties with complex landscapes. Lawn owners can choose specific areas they need to mow and skip any part of the lawn. Not only that, but they can also customize the mowing schedule and grass heights, and get exceptional results.

Let’s understand what Navimow’s multi-zone mowing is and how you can use this feature.

What is Multi-zone Mowing?

Multi-zone mowing is a special feature of Navimow mowers that allows users to mow multiple zones or areas in their lawns. It’s possible to separately map each zone, set a schedule, and select a distinct mowing height.

For instance, if there are different grassy areas at your home, such as your front yard and backyard, you can set different schedules and mowing heights for them.

Often, lawns are divided into segments, separated by pathways, a swimming pool, flowerbeds, etc. There could be a narrow stripe along the side of the driveway and a remote patch of grass around the garage. In such cases, users can make each area a zone and customize the mowing operation.

Multi-zone mowing is just like breaking grassy areas of your entire property into fractions that are easier to handle. You don’t need to mow the full yard at once; you can decide which zone to mow and when. For instance, if you have a party in your backyard, you can only mow that area.

The most important benefit of multi-zone mowing is its high adaptability to changes. If you are going to make a flowerbed anywhere in the lawn, you only need to open the map and adjust the boundary lines. You can even create a new zone whenever you want to adapt to the changes.

How to Map Multi-zone?

You can map multiple zones through the Navimow application. Let’s see the step-by-step process.

If you have not created a map yet, start from Step 1. But if you already have a map and want to add more zones, skip the initial steps and follow from Step 5.

Step 1: Open the Navimow app and tap “Create a Map.”

Step 2: The mower will calibrate first. Tap the Calibrate button. The mower will come out of its charging station and move to calibrate on its own. Once you see “Start Mapping,” tap it.

Step 3: You are ready to map the first zone. For this, you need to take the mower to the starting position from where you want to start mapping. It could be an edge or a corner. Use the forward, reverse, left, and right buttons on the app to move the mower there and tap “Reached starting point.”

Step 4: Move the mower along the edge and map the whole area. Try to be close to the edge as much as possible. When you are near the point from where you started, tap “Done.” You have successfully mapped a zone. You can also save the map at this stage.

Step 5: Now, it’s time for the second zone. Open the map and tap Add More > Boundary.

Step 6: Take the mower to the starting point of Zone 2 and tap “Reached starting point.”

Step 7: Start mapping and complete the closed loop. Tap Done. Your map for the second zone is ready, and you can save it.

By following the same process, you can map more zones. It’s extremely simple. And if there is any area in the zone that you want to avoid, you can set an Off-limit Island. Select the zone and go to Add More > Off-limit Island. Move the mower to the starting point and map the area. By doing this, your mower will never mow this area. It’s helpful for flowerbeds, swimming pools, and other islands in the middle of the zone.

How to Connect Different Zones?

Different zones are connected through channels. It’s a dedicated pathway made between two zones, and the mower follows it to navigate zones on its own.

Once you have created the boundaries of zones, you can create Channels. For that, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Go to the lawn map. Tap Add More > Channel.

Step 2: Move the mower to the starting point of the channel and take it to the boundary of another zone. It will automatically create the channel and connect both zones. Keep in mind that there should be no obstacles within 3.3 ft (1 meter) inside the channel.

Step 3: Tap Done and save the map.
