Once you map your lawn in the Navimow application, the mower covers the whole mapped area. But if it is mowing the same area again and again and leaving some spaces, there is an issue with the settings, internet, etc.
Let’s understand why Navimow mowers might keep mowing the same area. We will share some common reasons and explain how you can fix the issue on your own.
Reasons for Navimow Mowing the Same Area
Mowing Cycle
Mowing Cycle is a function in the Navimow app. When it is activated, the mower repeats mowing.
If you have enabled it, then the mower will repeat the cycle. Therefore, it mows the same area again and again.
There is nothing wrong with the mower, settings, etc. You only need to disable the function to prevent the mower from repeating the cycle.
Non-grass Area
Sometimes, there is a non-grass area within the lawn that prevents the mower from crossing it and mowing the other part of the lawn.
Suppose there is a stone path in the middle of your lawn. The mower mows on one side of the path and does not cross it to mow the other part. That’s because the mower considers the stone path an obstacle and reroutes. It stays within the same area and mows it again and again.
To solve this issue, you need to create a VisionFence™ Off zone around the stone path. We will share the step-by-step process later in this article.
Dirty Lens and Sensor
Navimow lawn mowers rely on camera lenses or LiDAR sensors to detect obstacles in the lawn. When there is an obstacle nearby, these lenses and sensors detect it instantly. The mower maintains a safe distance and changes its path.
But when the lens or LiDAR sensor has accumulated dust or grime, there is a possibility of false detection. The mower might think there is an obstacle ahead, but there isn’t one in reality. Due to false detection, the mower might not go to a new area and mow the same place again and again.
Long Grass/Weeds
Look at the area that the Navimow mower is neglecting. If it has taller grass than other parts of the lawn, it could be the root cause.
Extremely tall grass is just like a normal obstacle to Navimow mowers. Thus, once the mower detects it, it reroutes and leaves that area.
Maybe the area that the mower is not mowing might have tall grass. And that’s why the mower is not going in that direction.
Similarly, there could be tall grass weeds in the area. They work the same as obstacles.
Internet Issue
Navimow lawn mowers require stable internet connectivity. Without it, they won’t be able to load the map properly and navigate the lawn.
That said, if there is an internet issue, the mower will mow the area of the map that has been loaded and leave the unloaded area. It will repeat mowing the same area, which eventually becomes a problem for the lawn owner.
Narrow Passage
If there is a narrow passage between the mowed and neglected areas, this could be the reason behind the repeated cycle.
Suppose your mower mows the front yard but does not go to the backyard on its own. It could be because of the narrow passage between these areas. The high walls and fences block the signals, and that’s why the mower stays in one location and mows it repeatedly.
You can fix the issue either by creating a VisionFence™ Off or by dividing the narrow passage into two zones.
How to Fix Navimow Mowing the Same Area
Here are some effective solutions to prevent your mower from mowing the same area.
Disable Mowing Cycle
The first thing that you need to do is check whether the Mowing Cycle is enabled or not. Because this is the most common reason for repeated mowing.
Step 1: Open the Navimow application.
Step 2: Go to Settings > Mower > Mowing Schedule.
Step 3: Look for Mowing Cycle. If it is enabled, disable it.
If this is the issue, you don’t need to look at other solutions. Try mowing again, and you won’t face the problem again.
Get Rid of Long Grass/Weeds
Long grass can be the actual cause of this problem. If the grass is relatively taller in the areas where Navimow doesn’t go, you should mow it using any mower you have. Shorten the grass, and then try Navimow again. You just have to do it once, as the Navimow mower will maintain the grass height from now on.
Similarly, long weeds can also create a problem. But you can’t just push them out of the ground. Identify the type of weed and learn the right way to get rid of it. For that, you can check out Types of Weeds and How to Deal with Them?
Make VisionFence™ Off Zone
If your lawn has any non-grass zone in the middle or a narrow passage between two areas, you should create a VisionFence™ Off zone.
VisionFence™ is Navimow’s obstacle detection technology. It senses obstacles automatically and commands the mower to reroute. However, you can turn this detection off in certain areas with the VisionFence™ Off zone function. You can select the specific area, and the mower will not avoid obstacles and mow or pass without any issues.
But keep in mind that you should only make safe and predictable areas as VisionFence™ off zones. There should be no children or pets around. Keep the area as small as possible and according to your needs.
Here’s how you can create a VisionFence™ off zone.
Step 1: Open the Navimow application.
Step 2: Go to the map and tap Add More.
Step 3: Tap VisionFence™ Off Zone.
Step 4: You will have a rectangle on the lawn. Place it over the non-grass area and adjust the size.
Step 5: Add as many VisionFence™ Off zones as you need. Save the map.
Try Smaller Zones
If you have made a big area as one zone, then the Navimow mower might face signal issues. It happens when you are using RTK and have inaccurately placed the antenna and charging station. In this case, you can divide the zone into two or three smaller zones.
Step 1: Open the Navimow app and go to the map.
Step 2: Tap Add More > Boundary.
Step 3: You can create the boundary of the new zones. Take the mower to the starting position and tap “Reached starting point.” Move the mower and map the boundary.
Step 4: You will reach the starting point at the end of mapping. Save the map.
Note: If you are using NRTK, you don't have to do this.
Improve Wi-Fi/Internet Connectivity
If the Wi-Fi signals are weak or the internet is too slow, the mower will face issues while loading the map.
You can upgrade your Wi-Fi router for better speed and range. Another option is using a Wi-Fi extender.
If the internet is slow, you can switch to another internet service provider.
Clean the Lens and Sensor
Check the lens and sensor. Over time, they accumulate dust and grime, which creates issues in detecting obstacles accurately.
Clean the lens and sensor with a cloth. Do it on a regular basis to prevent false detection. Once you do that, your mower will work fine and navigate the whole lawn more precisely.
